This Privacy Policy explains how EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. (JVCKENWOOD), an affiliated company of JVCKENWOOD Corporation, collects, uses, and discloses information about you when you access or use our websites and mobile application(s) (collectively, the “Sites”), and other online products and services (collectively, the “Services”), contact our customer service team, or otherwise interact with us.

The Privacy Policy also explains the choices available to you regarding our use of the information, the steps we take to safeguard the information and how you may contact us if you have any questions about our privacy practices.

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the date at the top of the policy and, in some cases, we may provide you with additional notice (such as adding a statement to our website homepage or sending you a notification).  We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy whenever you access the Services or otherwise interact with us to stay informed about our information practices and the choices available to you.

1. Types of Personal Information We Collect

“Personal Information” generally means any information that identifies you as an individual, and any other information we associate with it.  We collect information, from both online and offline sources, which identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with you.

Depending on how you have interacted with JVCKENWOOD, we may have collected certain information within the following categories of Personal Information from you in the last (12) months. Please note that we have not collected every type of Personal Information identified in the examples below, and the types of Personal Information we have collected on any individual depends on the individual’s interaction with us:

Further, under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”), “unique identifiers” or “unique personal identifier” means a persistent identifier that can be used to recognize an individual or household, or a device that is linked to an individual or household, over time and across different services.

Personal Information categories listed in the California Customer Records statute (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80(e)).

This category may include: name, signature, Social Security number, physical characteristics, address, telephone number, passport number, driver’s license or state identification card number, insurance policy number, education or employment information, financial account numbers, medical information, or health insurance information.

Commercial information.

This category may include: records of personal property, products or services purchased, obtained, or considered, or other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies.

Internet or other electronic network activity information.

This category may include: browsing history, search history, and information regarding interactions with an Internet Web site, application, or advertisement.

Professional or employment-related information.

This category may include:  current or past job history or performance evaluations.

2. How We Collect Personal Information

  • When you purchase a JVCKENWOOD product, create an account or register for or use a Service, you may provide us with profile information and other voluntarily provided content.

  • Information that is passively collected when you use the Sites, such as by our web servers and by third party analytics tools we use; as well as through our Services. To learn more about JVCKENWOOD’s use of cookies, please see our Cookie Policy. 

  • We may receive information from third parties such as advertising and marketing partners, public databases, and our transaction processor when you purchase a product online. If we do so, this policy governs how we can use that information.

  • In addition to collecting Personal Information, we may also collect and de-identify information so it no longer identifies you.  We can aggregate and use such information to engage in marketing and other activities in a manner that protects our consumers since it does not use their Personal Information and is outside the scope of this Privacy Policy.

3. How We Use Personal Information

For the purpose of providing the following information through media including e-mail and direct mail:

  • Proposals and other information provided concerning products and services handled by JVCKENWOOD;

  • Proposals and other information provided concerning the repair, support and maintenance of products handled by JVCKENWOOD;

  • Information provided concerning campaigns, events and workshops;

  • Information provided concerning the gathering of responses to questionnaire surveys and monitoring investigations; and

  • Sending of internal employee publications.

  • Sending of external publications.

For the purpose of sending products:

  • As product items are purchased or ordered;

  • As prizes for campaign winners and participants; and

  • As mementos for exhibitions and other events.

For the purpose of customer support:

  • To respond to, confirm and record inquiries and consultation;

  • To respond to, confirm and record repairs, support and maintenance for products;

  • To provide after-sales services and inspection activities for products, and collect payments therefor;

  • To provide updates on products and services; and

  • To issue product guarantee certificates, and provide online user registration.

For the purpose of managing JVCKENWOOD’s services for applications and registrations received:

  • To manage and provide services for all applications and registrations received and contracts entered into by JVCKENWOOD;

  • To manage billing information for purchases and use of products and services; and

  • To respond concerning the delivery date of products and services.

For the purpose of product development:

  • To implement questionnaire surveys and monitor investigations for product development;

  • To send compensation to participants for questionnaire surveys and monitoring investigations;

  • To prepare statistical materials;

  • To aggregate and analyze questionnaires; and

  • To plan new products.

4. Information Sharing with Third Parties

JVCKENWOOD may share information about you for business purposes as follows or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

  • With your consent or at your direction.

  • With vendors and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf, including technical support of our systems and Services.

  • In response to a subpoena, legal order or official request, including lawful requests by public authorities to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

  • Between and among JVCKENWOOD and our current and future parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, and other companies under common control and ownership.

  • Cases in which personal data is provided in conjunction with the succession of business due to a merger, business separation or transfer of business.

  • Through a third-party customer service provider or dealer/reseller.

5. Protection of Personal Information

JVCKENWOOD uses standard physical, technical and administrative measures designed to reduce the risk of loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure or modification of your Personal Information. Unfortunately, no system or network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.  If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us as specified in the Contact Us section of this Privacy Policy.

6. Children

JVCKENWOOD does not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personally identifiable information about children under 13. If you believe that a child under age 13 may have provided us with Personal Information without parental consent, please contact us as specified in the Contact Us section of this Privacy Policy.

7. Retention Period

JVCKENWOOD will retain your Personal Information for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by for legal, auditing, or compliance purposes.

8. Updating Your Information

JVCKENWOOD offers you the opportunity to update your Personal Information and manage your communications from us either by contacting us using the email address in the Contact Us section below, and/or using the “Unsubscribe” link provided in the email or communication received.

9. Notice of Privacy Rights of California Residents

Please note: To protect your privacy, we may ask for additional information to verify your identity in order for us to respond to your request.

You have the right as a California consumer to expect disclosures as to how we collect, use and care for Personal Information, and whether we, for our benefit or on behalf of another company, share or sell the Personal Information we collect or process for commercial gain. We have provided these disclosures in the above sections of our Privacy Notice.

Further, you have the right as a California consumer to expect the policy to be available, accessible and easy to understand, and reviewed and updated at least annually describing our Personal Information collection activities over the prior twelve (12) months. If our business changes or additional processing for new purposes are planned, you have the right to expect an update to the Privacy Policy to be provided describing these purposes.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”), if you are a California resident, you may exercise the following consumer right, free of charge to you, twice in a twelve-month period.  We are obligated to respond within a period of forty-five (45) days.  To exercise any of the below rights, please use our Individual Rights Request portal.

Right to know and access. You may submit a verifiable request for information regarding the:

  • Categories of Personal Information collected or disclosed by us;

  • Purposes for which categories of Personal Information are collected by us;

  • Categories of sources from which we collect Personal Information; and

  • Specific pieces of Personal Information we have collected about you during the past twelve (12) months.

Right to delete.   Subject to certain exceptions, you have the option to delete Personal Information about you that we have collected from you.

Verification.   Requests for access to or deletion of Personal Information are subject to our ability to reasonably verify your identity in light of the information requested and pursuant to relevant CCPA requirements, limitations, and regulations.

Right to equal service and price.  You have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for the exercise of your CCPA privacy rights, subject to certain limitations.

Shine the light.   We do not rent, sell, or share your Personal Information with nonaffiliated companies for their direct marketing purposes, unless we have your permission.

10. Sale of Personal Information

JVCKENWOOD does not and will not sell the Personal Information we have already collected about you unless we obtain your explicit consent to do so.

11. Notice of Privacy Rights of Residents of the European Economic Area (EEA)

Please note: To protect your privacy, we may ask for additional information to verify your identity in order for us to respond to your request.

Users in the European Union only:

Under EU Regulation 2016/679 of the European Parliament and the Council; the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), you have a number of rights when it comes to your personal information. Further information and advice about your rights can be obtained from the data protection regulator in your country of residence within the EU. You can exercise any of these rights by contacting us through our email or mailing address in the Contact Us section below.

  • The right to be informed. You have the right to be provided with clear, transparent and easily understandable information about how we use your Personal Information and your rights. This is why we’re providing you with the information in this Policy.

  • The right of access. You have the right to obtain access to your Personal Information, and certain other information (similar to that provided in this Privacy Policy). This is so that you are aware and can check that your information is being used in accordance with data protection law.

  • The right to rectification. You are entitled to have your Personal Information corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete.

  • The right to erasure. This is also known as ‘the right to be forgotten’ and, in simple terms, enables you to request the deletion or removal of your Personal Information where there is no compelling reason for us to keep using it. This is not a general right to erasure; there are exceptions.

  • The right to restrict processing. You have rights to ‘block’ or suppress further use of your Personal Information. When processing is restricted, we can still store your Personal Information, but may not use it further. We keep lists of people who have asked for further use of their information to be ‘blocked’ to make sure the restriction is respected in future.

  • The right to data portability. You have rights to obtain and reuse your Personal Information for your own purposes across different services. For example, if you decide to switch to a new provider, this enables you to move, copy or transfer your information easily between our IT systems and theirs safely and securely, without affecting its usability. This is not a general right however and there are exceptions.

  • The right to object to processing. You have the right to object to certain types of processing, including processing for direct marketing (i.e. receiving emails from us notifying you about other services we provide which we think may be of interest to you or being contacted with varying potential opportunities). You may change your preferences regarding email or newsletters as described above.

  • The right to lodge a complaint. You have the right to lodge a complaint about the way we handle or process your personal data with your national data protection regulator:

  • The right to withdraw consent. If you have given your consent to anything we do with your personal data (i.e. we rely on consent as a legal basis for processing your personal information), you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time (although if you do so, it does not mean that anything we have done with your Personal Information with your consent up to that point is unlawful). You can withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal information at any time.
