Erie County chooses EFJohnson to provide ATLAS® P25 Phase 2 public safety communication system

IRVING, TEXAS – August 16, 2016 – EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. (EFJohnson), the mission-critical P25 communications specialist for JVCKENWOOD Corporation, has signed a $16.1 million contract with Erie County, Pennsylvania to deliver a secure P25 Phase 2 communication system, new radio fleet, dispatch consoles, and long-term support services to upgrade and manage its radio network.

“I’m very proud of the progress we’ve made so far on this system and where it will take us,” said County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper. “In the end, it will protect not only every first responder, but every person the first responders are trying to help.”

EFJohnson’s ATLAS system will deliver countywide interoperable radio communications on a common platform, providing a technologically advanced solution that meets the needs of all Erie County residents and first responders, including fire, police, medical, and emergency management personnel.

“EFJohnson will provide Erie County with a next generation public safety radio system that will meet our current and future needs for the next 20 years,” said Erie County Public Safety Director John Grappy.

The solution includes an ATLAS twenty-one site, two cell, six channel P25 UHF Phase 2 trunked simulcast system and 25 Zetron AcomNOVUS dispatch consoles at three dispatch centers. Erie County’s current fleet of radios will be replaced with KENWOOD Viking® P25 portable and mobile radios enabled with TrueVoiceTM noise cancellation and commanded by EFJohnson’s Armada® fleet management software, including wireless elite battery management.

“EFJohnson and the JVCKENWOOD family are incredibly proud to have been selected as Erie County’s partner for such an important project, which will benefit not only the public safety community but all citizens of the county,” said EFJohnson’s President and CEO, John Suzuki. “We commend the professional, thorough, open and competitive process the County and its consultant, MCM Consulting Group, Inc. (MCM) used in its evaluation and award. Its conclusion validates EFJohnson’s approach toward today’s public safety market. By listening to customers, delivering the most modern solutions, and providing a transparent business model, EFJohnson is making safe simple for Erie County and customers like them.”
