DFW Airport chooses EFJohnson to provide ATLAS® P25 Phase 2 communications network

IRVING, TEXAS – November 19, 2015 – EF Johnson Technologies, Inc., the mission-critical P25 communications solutions specialist for JVCKENWOOD Corporation, has signed a $7.5 million contract with Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to deliver a secure P25 Phase 2 communication system, new radio fleet, and long-term support services to upgrade and manage its radio network.

EFJohnson’s innovative ATLAS® system technology with patented coreless architecture provides maximum reliability and protects against multiple points of failure.  The new network will provide 99.9% availability and ensure reliable communications for emergency services for day-to-day operations and crisis management.

The new ATLAS Project 25 Phase 2 open-standard system will replace DFW Airport’s existing legacy system. It will provide improved coverage across DFW’s 26.9 square mile facility, and interoperability with several neighboring agencies in the DFW Metroplex via Inter RF Subsystem Interface (ISSI).

John Suzuki, chief executive officer and president of EFJohnson says, “We’re dedicated to delivering complete turnkey, innovative P25 solutions and today we’re delighted to announce our long-term strategic partnership with DFW Airport to provide them a reliable, next-generation public safety communications solution.”

The complete turnkey solution includes an ATLAS 3-site, 10 channel P25 Phase 2 trunked simulcast system, 5 channel P25 Phase 2 in-building system, 4 channel P25 Phase 2 interoperability system, microwave backhaul system, and eight dispatch consoles with integrated voice and data capabilities. DFW’s current fleet of radios will be replaced with 1,500 Viking® P25 portable and mobile radios including AES encryption and GPS capabilities, connecting the Airport’s police departments, fire departments and ground crews. The contract also includes six years of warranty and maintenance services, and remote network monitoring.

The state-of-the-art system purchase is part of the Airport’s Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program which began in 2010. DFW serves approximately 174,031 passengers a day and 63 million passengers annually. The Airport is the fourth busiest airport in the world with 679,000 total movements (landing or takeoffs) a year.
