EFJOHNSON ANNOUNCES ATLAS PORTFOLIO EXPANSION AT APCO 2014
IRVING, TEXAS – August 4, 2014 – EF Johnson Technologies, Inc. will showcase two new additions to its popular ATLAS® P25 systems product portfolio, the ATLAS 1200 P25 Station and RConnect™, during the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International Conference and Expo August 4-5 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA.
Since ATLAS was launched at APCO in 2011, EFJohnson has deployed ATLAS P25 systems across a wide range of public safety customers ranging in size from small city or town systems up to state-wide and territory-wide complex networks. Smaller agencies that do not require a large networked system often have the need for single repeaters to provide P25 radio communication within a confined geographic location. In order to keep the cost at an affordable price point for end users, the ATLAS 1200 single repeaters will be distributed primarily through the dealer networks of EFJohnson and Kenwood USA Corporation, both subsidiaries of JVCKENWOOD Corporation. “We are excited to offer ATLAS P25 infrastructure through the Kenwood dealer sales channel. ATLAS will allow Kenwood to fill what was previously a gap in our P25 product offering,” states Mark Jasin, executive vice president, Kenwood USA Corporation.
RConnect, another addition to the ATLAS family, is a robust, multi-functional interoperability gateway solution that provides a rapid, reliable, and redundant connection between ATLAS P25 systems and other radio systems. “The versatility of RConnect allows system administrators to use it in a variety of applications, depending on their specific need,” noted Arindam Roy, EFJohnson’s director of product management, systems. It can be used as a backup console connection so that if the dispatch center is disconnected from the network, the StarGate® dispatch console automatically switches to RConnect to wirelessly connect to the ATLAS system without dispatcher intervention. RConnect can also be used as a simple interoperability gateway to connect an ATLAS system to another deployed P25 system or to a legacy LMR trunked system. Additionally, when the user is fully migrated and interoperability is no longer required, the RConnect solution components can be fully reused as the backup console connection, thereby eliminating any throwaway investment.
The introduction of these new additions to the ATLAS system solution portfolio underscores the continuing innovation and applicability of the ATLAS solution to meet a broad range of public safety needs while retaining the flexibility and value of the ATLAS system solution to the end user.
Attendees to the APCO expo are invited to EFJohnson’s booth #527 where the ATLAS 1200 P25 Station will be on display and ATLAS RConnect™ demonstrations will be conducted. Kenwood USA will also have the ATLAS 1200 on display in booth #1337.
